Run and inspect an automation

Enable or disable an automation, run it by hand, and inspect its history and step results.

Automations

Use an automation’s controls to decide when it can run and inspect what each run does. Its history shows results for the run and its actions.

Before you start

You need Full access on the automation to enable, disable, or run it by hand. Editing or switching the rule on or off also requires the workspace member, admin, or owner role. Runs act with the automation author’s permissions.

Enable the rule

  1. Open the automation and review Editor.
  2. Select Save rule to save any changes.
  3. Open Rule actions beside Save rule.
  4. Select Enable.
  5. Check that its status reads Enabled.

Run it by hand

  1. Open Rule actions on an enabled automation.
  2. Select Run now.
  3. In History, select the run to expand its step results.

Run now saves unsaved rule changes before running. It needs the automation to be enabled. A manual run has no triggering event, so use inputs that do not depend on an event’s details.

Turn it off

  1. Open Rule actions.
  2. Select Disable.
  3. Check that its status reads Disabled.

Good to know

Open History whenever you need to inspect earlier runs. Expanded runs show step results; failed steps also show their resolved input. A failed action does not automatically stop later actions, so check every result and use conditions for steps that depend on success.
